I am Rita, a professional apparel graphic designer by trade, who is now staying at home with my 7 and 3 year old sons. This site started in 2008 as a way to document all the recipes I was experimenting with. It evolved for a while (2009-2010) into a true part-time job and I got burned out.
After dropping some of the non-essentials (*cough* Facebook), it has settled back again into more of a documentation of what we eat and how I organized it all.
I've always loved to cook, and being in my mom's kitchen cooking with her brings all sorts of warm fuzzies. My mom gave me a lot of independence in the kitchen at a young age. At 14, when all my friends could get their first summer jobs and I was still too young, she gave me the job of menu planning and cooking all the meals for the week nights. I wrote the grocery list, and she took me shopping. It was my first solo act, and it gave me great confidence.
I've also tried to expand our groceries while keeping it under budget, try new recipes, and keep our family eating healthfully. Check out how I do it in How to Save Money on Groceries.
We moved from Florida to Texas in 2012, so some of my old posts talk about life in Florida. Here are some of my favorite places to school in Florida:
I got a Produce Club basket every other week from Hydro Taste in Myakka City, FL
I bought cage free eggs, chickens, and beef from The Dam Ranch in Bradenton, FL (They also offer pork). I bought milk from Dakin Dairy Farms in Myakka City, FL
